REFLEXOLOGY.
The origins of reflexology date back several thousand years and it is known that the Ancient Egyptians and Chinese practiced a similar method to promote good health and balance energy throughout the body. Reflexology is a form of “complimentary” medicine which activates the healing powers of the body. This involves using massage to the reflex areas found in the feet or hands. Most commonly the feet are used as the areas treated. In the feet there are reflex areas corresponding to all parts of the body, with the right foot corresponding to the left side of the body. Imbalances in the body will be mirrored in the feet or hands.
By having the whole body represented in the feet, the method offers a means of treating the whole body and on treating the body as a whole. This latter point is an important factor of a natural therapy and allows not only the symptoms to be treated but also the cause of the symptoms.
The art, and practice of working the reflexes in the hand or feet The treatment links into your natural energy system and helps to eliminate toxins and impurities whilst improving circulation and so induce relaxation by balancing the whole body, by helping us to RELAX and deal with stress better, reflexology assists in the living of a happy, health and peaceful life. Reflexology is a very well established and respected therapy, not only by private clients, but is also widely accepted by the medical profession.
What Happens during treatment? When you first visit a Reflexology practitioner you will be asked about your medical history. You will then be asked to remove your shoes and socks and sit in a reclining chair. The treatment involves the practitioner using thumb and finger pressure to the reflex points on the foot. Some points may be tender and this indicates to the practitioner in which area of the body there are imbalances.
A minimum of three treatments are recommended. however this is generally advisable to have a course of approximately six treatments to obtain optimum results. However this depends on the individual’s present condition and how they respond to treatment. A treatment session usually lasts between 50 -60 minutes.
BOWEN THERAPY. The Bowen Technique was pioneered by Thomas Ambrose Bowen, born 1916 in Geelong, Australia. After working in miscellaneous labouring jobs as a young man, he developed a great interest in massage and body work and spent time observing football trainers and others involved in sports. By the time he was in his early 40s, this gifted man had established a full time practice in remedial therapy using the technique he had developed. In 1978, when he was interviewed by a parliamentary committee looking into complementary medicine, he stated under oath, that he teated about 280 patients per week with the help of an assistant and a receptionist - an incredible 13,000 patients a year, 88% of whom only require two or three treatments! Mr Bowen died in the early 1980s but today there are a number of flourishing therapies based on his work.
The Bowen Technique can be used to treat the following complaints Back, Neck, Shoulder, Joint aches and paint, sport injuries, asthma, dizziness, headaches, insomnia, and many more conditions may respond wonderfully well to Bowen treatment.
What Happens during treatment? The practitioner uses thumbs and fingers on precise points on the body to make rolling type moves which aim to disturb the muscles, soft tissues and energy within the body. During the treatment there are periods in which the client is left resting to allow the body to absorb the gentle moves that have been performed. This gives the body time to make the subtle and fine adjustments which help to relieve tension, reduce pain and initiate the healing process. The Bowen Technique encourages the body to realign itself; there is no manipulation or adjustment of the hand tissue and no force is used or needed. The Bowen Technique is not a form of massage.
AROMATHERAPY. Aromatherapy is a massage with a blend of essential oils, chosen personally for your mind, body and emotions.
